NAIDOC

This is an incredibly successful and enjoyable celebration of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture at our school.

Annually we host several Aboriginal visitors that have been past residents of the Great Southern and they shared their stories and knowledge of the local area with our students. Many Aboriginal artefacts are brought into school and the students experience a range of traditional foods, performing arts, historical information about their home, bush walks, identifying local traditional bush foods and medicines and traditional arts and crafts.

The Aboriginal community are thrilled to have the school take such an interest in the Aboriginal heritage of Bremer Bay and the students thoroughly enjoy their experiences.

NAIDOC is a great opportunity for the students and school to develop further connections with the wider community and learn more about the traditional custodians of their land.

In 2014 Bremer Bay Primary won a Community Relations PALS award for our NAIDOC week and ongoing education in Aboriginal history and culture.
